The Kwakiutl Indians live along the southwest coast of British Columbia
and on the Queen Charlotte and northern Vancouver islands. Known for
their highly developed art forms and secret societies, the Kwakiutl are
traditionally a fishing people, and continue to fish commercially. Potlatch
ceremonies—with dances, food, speeches and gift-giving—are held to
show wealth.
